2015 Oakland Athletics
I haven’t wanted to write about this season’s Oakland Athletics because I wanted to get a feel for new players and see what they can do. We’re going on week four of the season and I am still pulling my thoughts together on the team I knew virtually nothing about at the start of Spring Training.
First off let me say this team isn’t perfect, but to me it looks promising. The A’s so far have gone 8-12 and those 8 wins have all come at night. No day game wins to speak of and no wins unless Oakland is ahead by more than 2 runs. In my opinion, most of the close games that turned into losses were winnable games, but were put out of reach by defensive errors and mistakes made by the bullpen.
I feel this team is young and if we’re patient they just might surprise us. They all work well as a team and with 9 trades in the off season I know a lot of fans were worried about team chemistry. This team has also quieted the fans that doubted they could produce runs as the A’s are fourth in most scored runs by any MLB team.
With a few injuries still hindering the A’s and leaving a few unanswered questions , Bob Melvin and the Athletics are doing the best they can with the players that are available. In discussions with other fans I’ve heard this team could hover around .500 until the All-Star break and still get into the post-season.
Only time will tell, but I think once the A’s clean up the errors and tighten up the pitching, this could be a team that sneaks up in the second half of the season and surprises us all.
